Flushing a baby’s nose with a syringe can be done with care following these steps:
1. Prepare the materials:
You will need a baby nasal syringe, saline solution (nasal drops or spray), and tissue or baby wipes.
2. Positioning:
Lay your baby on their back and tilt their head back slightly. You may place a towel under their head to catch any liquid or secretions.
3. Administer saline drops:
Gently squeeze 10ml saline water into your baby nasal syringe. This helps to makes mucus easier to remove.
4. Irrigation using a nasal syringe:
Place the silicone tip of the nasal syringe against your baby’s nostril. Gently compress the syringe to create flushing, then release it while keeping the tip in the nostril. The irrigation will flush out the mucus. Repeat this process for the other nostril.
– Note: Do not insert the nasal syringe too deeply into the nostril and do not irrigate for more than a few seconds at a time, as it can irritate your baby’s nasal passages.
5. Clean the syringe:
After each use, detach the silicone adaptor from the syringe and clean it thoroughly with warm soapy water, followed by rinsing with clean water.
Remember, always exercise caution and gentleness when performing any procedure involving your baby. If you have any concerns or your baby’s congestion worsens, it’s important to consult your pediatrician.
